Historical background:
The Republic of the Sudan and the kingdom of Belgium share a very good history of bilateral relations dated back to the early days of the independence of the Sudan in1956 when Belgium was among the countries which had recognized Sudan as a sovereign nation and established its diplomatic relations with the newly independent country. Diplomatic representation between and were established in 1969 when Sudan was officially inaugurated its Embassy in brussels while Belgium inaugurated it is Diplomatic Mission in Khartoum in 1970 before its closure in 1972. However since then Belgium continues to cover Sudan from Cairo as non- resident diplomatic representation and has an Honorary Consulate in Khartoum. The main aspects of cooperation between the two countries cantered on the areas of capacity builduing, technical support and cutural cooperation. Since 1970 the relationship had witnessed a significant progress where a considerable number of tow-side dignitaries visits have been achieved and few of agreements were signed.
Until 2018 regular exchange of high level visits have been a significant tool to improve and strengthening bilateral relations. During the below mentioned official visits both sides expressed their willingness and motivations to expand and enhance bilateral relationships forward.
